Ballet dancing and Ballet Fit insurance
From precise pointe work to controlled lifts, ballet combines strength with technique. We also cover Ballet Fit, which brings ballet-inspired movements into a fitness class setting.
Modern dancing insurance
Expressive movement meets strength and control. Get cover for modern dance, from jumps and turns to floor work and flowing routines.
Street dancing insurance
With fast footwork, bold moves and plenty of energy, street dance brings together a range of styles. Street dancing insurance by Ripe includes cover for hip-hop and breaking.
Tap dancing insurance
Using your feet as percussive instruments requires great technique, but no matter how much of a skilled tapper you are, it's still possible to sustain an injury, particularly to your feet and legs.
Jazz dancing insurance
Jazz is a style of dancing that blends elements of modern and ballet dance styles with African-American and European influences. Jazz dancing insurance can help protect dancers, dance groups, and dance instructors.
Belly dancing insurance
The origins of belly dancing come from the Middle East, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. Having belly dancing insurance can help provide financial protection to belly dancers and belly dancing instructors.
Ballroom dancing insurance
From the flowing movements of the waltz to the tango, ballroom dancing requires coordination and balance. Whether you’re practising, competing, or teaching a class, ballroom dancing insurance can help provide financial protection.
Salsa dancing and Salsa Fit insurance
With energetic steps, quick turns, and rhythmic movements, salsa dancing and Salsa Fit offer a lively way to get moving. Whether you’re dancing with a partner or taking part in a fitness class, accidents can happen.
And more...

Who is dance insurance for?
Dancers: Dance insurance is designed to suit individuals participating in dancing; this can include those who:
- participate in dance shows
- attend private or group lessons
- dance in a school or studio
- compete or dance recreationally
- take dance fitness classes at the gym
Dance teachers: To be eligible for dance teacher insurance, you must have the relevant accreditation from the appropriate governing body, such as the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), for example. If you're a dance teacher or instructor, you can get the same cover offered in a dance insurance policy, but with the addition of Professional Indemnity and Employers’ Liability cover.
Dance teacher insurance can cover a range of different teaching styles, such as:
- online dance classes
- 1-on-1 dance tutoring
- competitive dance team rehearsals
- group dance classes
Dance teams: If you’re part of a dance team, dance team insurance allows you to extend the level of cover to include all team members, including your team’s coaches, for training, recitals, and competitions.

Do I need insurance to teach a dance class?
You are not legally required to have insurance as a dance teacher unless you employ other dance teachers. If you employ any staff, you are legally required to have Employers' Liability insurance as a minimum.
However, even if you don’t employ staff, you may still want to consider specialist dance teacher insurance to help financially protect yourself, your students, and your fellow instructors.
For example, one of your students could inadvertently trip over a dance mat, slip on a wet floor in your studio, or mis-time a move and damage the venue you're using. If any of the above were to happen, Public Liability cover may help cover some or all of the legal costs if a claim was made against you.
Teaching dance online can also carry many of the same risks as teaching dance in person. For instance, if you were to injure yourself while demonstrating a routine, Insure4Sport could provide Personal Accident and Loss of Earnings cover.
-
If you teach dance in a studio or dance school, many of these venues may require you to have Public Liability insurance as a minimum; however, having dance insurance is not a legal requirement in the UK. It's always best to check with the studio where you plan to hold your classes to find out what insurance they require you to have before taking out a policy.
-
You may find that venues often require you to have your own insurance to teach on their premises. If you were to rely on the venue’s insurance, you may not have cover for:
- Public Liability claims made against you personally rather than the venue
- Professional Indemnity cover should a student hold you liable for an injury as a result of following your advice
- Personal Accident and Loss of Earnings cover if you were to suffer an injury and be unable to work for a period of time
- The theft, loss or damage of equipment that you own yourself
-
If you employ staff, it’s a legal requirement in the UK that you have Employers’ Liability insurance as a minimum.
-
If you’re a dancer, dance teacher, or a dance team that practices and instructs in multiple dance styles, these are all covered under one policy. If you’re a dance teacher, you are required to have either a minimum of 3 years of dance teaching experience or the appropriate qualification for the level at which you teach for that particular dance style.
-
There is no age limit for who dance teachers are allowed to teach with a dance insurance policy through Insure4Sport; however, you must ensure that your qualifications cover teaching that age group for your insurance to remain valid.
-
If you are teaching dance in person or online, there is no limit to the number of people you teach in your classes.
