Types of yoga insurance
If you decide to get a yoga insurance policy through Insure4Sport, there are two options available to you:
Yoga insurance: This cover option is tailored to suit individuals participating in yoga, including personal accident and yoga equipment cover.
Yoga instructor insurance: Yoga teacher or instructor insurance policies include all options available within a yoga insurance policy, but with the addition of Professional Indemnity and Employers' Liability cover. To be eligible for yoga teacher insurance, you must have the appropriate accreditation from the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY).
What does yoga insurance cover?
Yoga insurance
- Public liability – up to £10m for accidental bodily injury to a third party and accidental damage to third-party property
- Personal accident – covers accidental injury or death, dental treatment, and more following an accident as a result of yoga
- Theft, loss and damage to yoga equipment
- Hospitalisation compensation – if you are admitted as an in-patient for more than 24 hours
- Loss of earnings – up to £750 per week for up to 52 weeks. An excess of 14 days applies.
- Worldwide cover
- Any claims not arising from your participation in yoga
- Damage to property belonging to you or in your care (excluding premises and other property you temporarily occupy for the purpose of yoga)
- Loss or theft of any yoga equipment left unattended unless there is evidence of forced entry and/or exit to or from any premises, changing room, or any securely locked locker or similar places of storage
- Any claims for yoga equipment where you cannot provide evidence of ownership
- Theft, loss or damage to mobile phones

You are not legally required to have insurance in place as a yoga teacher. However, you may want to consider getting specialist yoga teacher insurance to provide financial protection and peace of mind.
If you teach yoga in a gym or studio, having insurance is not a legal requirement, but many gyms and studios require you to have Public Liability insurance as a minimum if you teach on their premises. It's always best to check with the studio or gym where you plan to hold your classes to find out what insurance they require you to have before taking out a policy.
If you teach yoga online, this can carry many of the same risks as teaching yoga in person. For instance, if you were to injure yourself while teaching a class, having yoga insurance in place through Insure4Sport could provide personal accident and loss of earnings cover.

If you are teaching yoga at a yoga retreat, insurance is not a legal requirement. However, if you're hosting the yoga retreat and employing other yoga instructors to teach, you are legally required to have Employers’ Liability insurance.
