Specialist dance insurance for dancers, instructors, and teams
Dancing is one of the most therapeutic sports, but whether you’re performing yourself or teaching others, it can come with an element of risk. Depending on the type of dance you focus on, you or your students could be required to execute extremely difficult moves, from a challenging lift to standing on pointe.
For all your diligence and attention to detail when dancing, some things are beyond your control. That’s why you may want to consider dance or dance teacher insurance to help financially protect you if the unexpected happens.

Ballet
The precise movements of ballet require practice and skill, not to mention dancing en pointe or the lifts that may be involved in your routine. In the event of something going wrong during a ballet class, ballet insurance can help provide further protection.
Ballet Fit
Mixing yoga, Pilates, and ballet, Ballet Fit has seen a surge in popularity in recent years as a way to enjoy learning ballet moves in a fitness class setting. Practising any form of fitness comes with a risk of injury, so you may want to consider getting Ballet Fit insurance to help guard you from these risks.
Tap
Using your feet as percussive instruments requires great technique, but no matter how much of a skilled tapper you are, it's still possible to sustain an injury, particularly to your feet and legs. That's why you may want to consider getting specialist tap dancing insurance.
Jazz
Jazz is a style of dancing that blends elements of modern and ballet dance styles with African-American and European influences. Jazz dancing insurance can help protect dancers, dance groups, and dance instructors should they suffer an injury or injure a third party.

When taking out a dance insurance policy through Insure4Sport, there are two options available to you:
- Dance insurance: This option is tailored to suit individuals participating in dancing and includes cover such as Personal Accident and dance equipment.

If you're a dance teacher or instructor, the same cover applies that we’ve mentioned above, but with the addition of Professional Indemnity and Employers’ Liability cover.
- Dance team insurance: If you’re part of a dance team, this option allows you to extend the level of cover to include all team members.

What classes are covered under dance teacher insurance?
Dance teacher insurance through Insure4Sport covers several forms of dance and teaching styles, including:
- 1-on-1 tutoring
- competitive dance team rehearsals
- group dance classes
Do I need insurance to teach a dance class?
You are not legally required to have insurance as a dance teacher unless you employ other dance teachers. If you employ any staff, you are legally required to have Employers' Liability insurance as a minimum.
However, even if you don’t employ staff, you may still want to consider specialist dance teacher insurance to help protect yourself, your students, and your fellow instructors.
For example, one of your students could inadvertently trip over one of your dance mats, slip on a wet floor in your studio, or mistime a move and damage the venue you're using. If any of the above were to happen, Public Liability cover may help cover some or all of the legal costs if a claim was made against you.
Teaching dance online can also carry many of the same risks as teaching dance in person. For instance, if you were to injure yourself while demonstrating a routine, Insure4Sport could provide personal accident and loss of earnings cover.
-
It’s not a legal requirement for dance teachers to have public liability insurance. However, if you teach dance in a studio or dance school, many of these venues will require you to have Public Liability insurance as a minimum. It's always best to check with the studio where you plan to hold your classes to find out what insurance they require you to have before taking out a policy.

Depending on the level and type of cover you choose, the cost of a dance teacher insurance policy through Insure4Sport will vary. The quickest way to determine how much your dance or dance teacher insurance premium could cost is by getting a quick online quote today.
