Why do I need dance teacher insurance?
Dancing is one of the most therapeutic sports there is – but teaching it comes with an element of risk. Depending what form of dance you teach, your students could be required to execute extremely difficult moves, from placing someone above their head to standing en pointe!
For all your diligence and attention to detail when training your students, certain circumstances are beyond your control. Someone could claim against you because of an injury they believe is your fault, your equipment could be lost or damaged, or you may hurt yourself and be out of action for longer than you can afford. As such, you need dance teacher insurance to protect you in case the unexpected happens.
With Insure4Sport, you can build your dance teacher insurance policy from a range of cover options including; Public Liability, Professional Indemnity, Personal Accident, Loss of Earnings, Equipment and Employers’ Liability.
What does dance teacher insurance cover?
Public Liability cover against injury or property damage: Because certain areas of dance require a great deal of physical exertion, injury and damage to property are genuine risks when you teach others, no matter how cautious or meticulous you are.
During a session, if you were teaching a dance move to one of your students and they injured themselves, they could hold you responsible for not explaining the move correctly and make a claim against you.
They could also inadvertently trip over the dance mats you use to teach, slip on a wet floor in your studio or mistime a move and damage the venue you’re using.
These scenarios are why dance teachers need Public Liability, which covers your legal liability for third party injury and property damage. Most venues you teach in will ask for proof that you have Public Liability before allowing you to hold sessions.
- Insure4Sport offers up to £10 million Public Liability.
- When you choose Public Liability you also receive up to £1 million Professional Indemnity cover, which protects you in the event someone from your class injures themselves, following advice you’ve given.
Personal Accident cover if you require treatment: Due to the flexibility required to perfect some dance moves, there’s always a possibility you could injure yourself.
If this happens, you need Personal Accident cover, which compensates you if you break a bone, need physiotherapy or require dental treatment for your injuries.
- With Insure4Sport, you can get from £10,000 to £50,000 Personal Accident cover.
- As part of our Personal Accident cover, we also offer Loss of Earnings cover up to £750 a week for up to 52 weeks, meaning you’ll be financially supported if you’re out of action.
Compensation for equipment repairs and replacements: All manner of things can happen to your equipment, leaving you unable to teach if you don’t have specialist dance teacher insurance.
The sound system you use to stream songs during classes could be stolen or lost. What’s more, you could drop your sound system and damage it. Thankfully, these scenarios are covered by our dance teacher insurance.
- Our Equipment cover protects you against loss, theft or damage of your equipment – whether at home, at work or whilst in use.
- We’ll cover the replacement of your insured equipment on a New-for-Old basis, provided it’s less than a year old and was purchased new, and will pay for repairs up to the limit stated in Your Insurance Schedule.
