Types of winter sports covered
Winter sports insurance through Insure4Sport can cover a wide range of activities, such as:
Curling
Curling may not be as high-risk as some full-contact sports, but there’s still a possibility that you could suffer an injury on the ice. Having specialist curling insurance in place can help financially protect you and your equipment in the event of an accident.
Ice skating
Regardless of how experienced you are at ice skating, there’s always a risk that you could fall and injure yourself or someone else. Specialist ice skating insurance can help provide financial protection should something go wrong on the rink.
Ringette
A popular Canadian sport, ringette may resemble ice hockey at a glance, but it’s a non-contact sport played with a stick and a ring. Although body-checking is not allowed in ringette, concussions and other injuries can still be common, which is why you may want to consider ringette insurance.

Types of winter sports insurance
If you take out a winter sports insurance policy with Insure4Sport, there are three policy options available for you to pick from:
Individual winter sports insurance: Designed for individual participants in winter sports, this option includes Public Liability, Personal Accident, and equipment cover.
Winter sports instructor insurance: If you’re a coach or instructor, winter sports instructor insurance includes the same cover options as a winter sports insurance policy but with the addition of Employers’ Liability and Professional Indemnity cover. To be eligible for this level of cover, you must have the relevant qualification from the appropriate governing body to teach your sport.
Winter sports team insurance: If you play a team sport, this option allows you to extend the cover offered in a winter sports insurance policy to include each team member.

Why consider specialist winter sports insurance?
Winter sports insurance can cover a wide range of sports, each with its own individual set of risks.
Whether you’re taking to the slopes or hitting the ice, specialist winter sports insurance may be able to cover some or all of the costs if:
- you suffer an injury while participating in a winter sport
- you injure a third party or damage their property while playing a winter sport
- your winter sports equipment is lost, stolen, or damaged
Winter sports instructor insurance can also help if:
- one of your students decides to make a claim against you after suffering an injury under your instruction
- someone you employ decides to make a claim against you due to an accident or illness that occurred while employed by you
Does travel insurance cover winter sports?
Travel insurance policies do not usually cover winter sports as standard, but you may be able to include them on your policy with an add-on at an additional cost.
Even with a winter sports add-on to your travel insurance policy, there are some sports they won’t usually cover (such as ice climbing or skiing and snowboarding off-piste). If your sport is included in the cover, there are some cover options which may not be included on your travel insurance policy, such as:
- Loss of Earnings
- Employers’ Liability
- Professional Indemnity
This is why you may want to consider specialist winter sports insurance through Insure4Sport, as your cover can be built specifically for your particular winter sport, with optional worldwide cover. Having optional Worldwide cover added to your policy means you have the same level of cover both in the UK and abroad for your sport, but it should not be used as a replacement for your travel insurance.
