Do I need insurance to teach Pilates?
You are not legally required to have insurance in place as a Pilates teacher. However, many gyms and studios will require you to have some form of third-party liability insurance to work on the premises. You may also want to consider obtaining specialist Pilates teacher insurance to provide financial protection and peace of mind.
For example, if one of your clients were to injure themselves or cause damage to third-party property while under your instruction, Public Liability cover may help cover some or all of the legal costs if they choose to make a claim against you.
Do I need Pilates instructor insurance to teach online?
If you teach Pilates online, this can carry many of the same risks as teaching Pilates in person. For instance, if you were to injure yourself while teaching a class, or someone you were teaching injured themselves at home, having Pilates insurance in place through Insure4Sport could provide personal accident and loss of earnings cover.

It's always best to check with the studio or gym where you plan to hold your classes to find out what insurance they require you to have before taking out a policy.
-
If you are teaching at a Pilates retreat, it is best to check with the hosts of the retreat and location to understand what insurance you require to teach there. If you’re hosting the retreat and employing other instructors to teach, you are legally required to have Employers Liability insurance.
If you are planning on attending or teaching at a retreat outside of the UK, Pilates insurance through Insure4Sport offers the option to extend your policy to include worldwide for cover up to 180 days.

If you employ others and you wish to insure multiple coaches or instructors, you will need to list them when you take out your policy, as only people who are listed will be insured.
