Why consider specialist paddleboarding insurance?

Whether you’re teaching, paddling with a group, or just flying solo, having paddleboard insurance in place can provide peace of mind that you’d be covered should anything go wrong. For example:

Paddleboarding insurance through Insure4Sport can help cover some or all of the costs involved if:

  • You accidentally cause an injury to another person or their property
  • Your paddleboard or other equipment is lost, stolen or accidentally damaged
  • You suffer a serious injury while out on the water

Paddleboard instructor insurance can also cover you if:

  • A client makes a claim against you after getting injured while following your guidance in a paddleboarding class
  • An employee makes a claim against you for injury or illness while working for you

Do I need insurance to teach paddleboarding?

It is not a legal requirement in the UK to have paddleboard insurance to use a paddleboard, or teach others how to use one. However, if you run a paddleboarding business and employ staff, Employers’ Liability insurance is a minimum requirement.

You and your clients may also need to hold valid waterways licences depending on where you’re paddleboarding, so always double-check the rules before venturing out. Licences can be obtained from bodies such as the Canal and River Trust.
