What is classed as a field sport

Generally speaking, a field sport is any sport played on a pitch, such as football, rugby, rounders, or lacrosse. However, countryside pursuits, such as shooting and fishing, can also sometimes be classed as field sports. If you’re unsure whether your sport is covered, start a quote today.

Types of field sports insurance  

When taking out field sports insurance through Insure4Sport, there are three main policy options available depending on the type of cover you need: 

Participant/individual insurance: Designed for individual players taking part in field sports. This can include Personal Accident cover, Public Liability, Equipment Cover, and more. 

Coach insurance: Designed for field sport coaches or instructors. Policies can include all the same benefits as participant insurance, but with additional cover such as Professional Indemnity and Employers’ Liability. 

Team insurance: Part of a field sports team? Team policies can provide collective cover for accidents, injuries, and equipment. 

What does field sports insurance cover?

Individuals & field sports teams

  • Public Liability – up to £10m for accidental bodily injury to another person or damage to third-party property  
  • Personal Accident – up to £50k of cover for accidental injury or death, dental treatment, and more whilst participating in field sports
  • Loss of earnings – up to £750 per week for up to 52 weeks. An excess of 14 days applies 
  • Theft, loss and damage to field sports equipment 
  • Hospitalisation compensation – if you are admitted as an in-patient for more than 24 hours  
  • Worldwide cover 
  • Any claims not arising from participating in field sports 
  • Any liability for damage to property belonging to you or in your care (excluding premises and other property you temporarily occupy for the purpose of playing field sports) 
  • Loss or theft of any field sports equipment left unattended unless there is evidence of forced entry and/or exit to or from any premises, changing room, or any securely locked locker or similar places of storage 
  • Any claims for field sports equipment without evidence of ownership
  • Theft, loss or damage to mobile phones

Coaches & instructors

  • The cost of a field sports insurance policy through Insure4Sport will vary depending on the specific sport(s) and the type and level of cover you choose to take out. The quickest and easiest way to find out how much your cover could cost is to get a quote online.

  • When taking out a policy through Insure4Sport, you can also get Worldwide Cover, which provides up to 180 days of cover per year anywhere in the world, whether you’re practising solo or coaching overseas. 

    However, please note that this is not a replacement for standard travel insurance.

  • Yes, you can participate in field sport competitions, but only on a non-professional level. 

  • To insure multiple coaches, you’ll need to list them when taking out your policy, as only listed coaches will be covered in the event of a claim.
