Why consider specialist cricket insurance?

Accidents can happen in cricket, regardless of whether you’re playing in a match or coaching a practice session, but cricket insurance can help provide financial protection should this happen. For example:

Cricket insurance (individual or team) through Insure4Sport can help you if:

  • you pick up an injury or injure someone else while playing cricket
  • your cricket equipment is lost, stolen or damaged
  • you cause damage to someone else’s property while playing cricket, such as breaking a window with a wayward shot

Cricket coach insurance can also provide cover if:

  • someone you’re coaching makes a claim against you for an injury sustained while following your advice
  • another coach makes a claim against you for injury or illness while working for you

Do I need insurance to play or coach cricket?

Cricket insurance is not generally required by law. However, if you own a cricket club that employs cricket coaches and other members of staff, Employers’ Liability insurance is a minimum legal requirement.

If you’re a cricket club member and play at your club regularly, you may be offered a basic level of public liability or personal accident cover as part of your membership, but this may not provide the same level of cover as a specialist policy through Insure4Sport.

Cricket Insurance FAQs
  • The cost of cricket insurance through Insure4Sport will vary depending on the type and level of cover you choose. The quickest and easiest way to find out how much yours could cost is to get a quick quote online

  • If you want to insure multiple cricket coaches, you’ll need to list them when you take out your coach policy, as only people listed will be covered.

  • Cricket coach insurance through Insure4Sport is provided on the basis that you have a relevant coaching qualification recognised by a UK sports governing body. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is the national governing body for cricket in England and Wales.

  • If you wish to play or coach cricket abroad, you’ll need to ensure that Worldwide Cover is selected on your policy.

With an Insure4Sport policy, there are no restrictions on where you can play or coach. However, if you’re holding sessions in public spaces, we recommend that you request permission from the relevant local authorities first. Appropriate risk assessments should also be carried out depending on your location.

Cricket insurance through Insure4Sport can also cover your participation in registered cricket tournaments, leagues, and other similar competitions.
