Specialist multi-sports cover for players, coaches and instructors
Playing or coaching sports can carry several risks, and accidents and injuries can occur at any time, regardless of the physicality of the sport.
If you’re a sports coach, instructor, or just like playing sports in your own time, specialist multi-sports insurance through Insure4Sport can cover more than 400 sports, helping financially protect you and your gear should something go wrong.
How does multi-sports insurance work?
At Insure4Sport, we place each sport we cover into one of five risk groups (A-E). Risk Group A is the lowest risk, while Risk Group E is the highest. These risk groups remain the same across all policy categories: PT, fitness instructor, coach, team, player, and participant*.
If you play, coach, or instruct more than one sport or activity, and each one falls into the same group (or lower), you’ll be insured to play, coach, or instruct each sport on the same policy at no extra cost.
Sport risk groups
If you're insured for:
- Risk Group A: you are covered to play or instruct sports within that group only
- Risk Group B: you are covered to play or instruct sports within groups A and B
- Risk Group C: you are covered to play or instruct sports within groups A, B and C
- Risk Group D: you are covered to play or instruct sports within groups A, B, C and D
- Risk Group E: you are covered to play or instruct sports within all the above risk groups
Here are a few examples of some of the sports in each risk group.
- A: Badminton, Cheerleading, Fishing, Swimming
- B: Basketball, Cricket, Football, Golf
- C: Archery, Sailing, Gymnastics, Cycling
- D: Indoor Climbing, Bouldering, Skiing, Snowboarding
- E: MMA, Bungee Jumping, Mountaineering, Paragliding

*Coaches and instructors must have the necessary qualifications for their chosen sport(s), formally recognised by a UK governing body unless otherwise agreed in writing with us.
Why consider multi-sports insurance?
Regardless of whether your chosen sport(s) falls into Risk Group A, E, or somewhere in between, playing or coaching can always carry an element of risk. However, having the right insurance can bring peace of mind and reassurance if something goes wrong.
Multi-sports insurance through Insure4Sport can provide cover in various scenarios, such as if:
- you get injured while playing or coaching
- your or someone you're coaching causes damage to your venue
- your sports equipment is lost, stolen, or accidentally damaged
- another coach claims compensation for an injury they sustained while working for you
Please note: If you run a sports coaching business that employs other coaches and staff, Employers' Liability Insurance is a legal requirement.

Yes, you can add sports from different risk categories to your policy, and you’ll be covered for all sports in the highest-risk group.
For example, let’s say you want to take out cover for basketball (Risk Group B) and climbing (Risk Group D). As you are covered for a Risk Group D sport, you’ll also automatically be covered for sports in risk groups A, B and C.
-
If you’re taking out a coach or instructor policy through Insure4Sport, you must hold a relevant qualification recognised by a UK national sport governing body for each sport you wish to coach. First aid certificates and qualifications are not a requirement for your insurance, but they may be required to coach at certain venues.
If you’re a children’s sports coach, you’ll also need an enhanced DBS check.
