Swimming Insurance

Specialist swimming insurance for swimmers, swim teachers, and teams

Whether you’re competing yourself or running classes as a swim teacher, swimming is not without its risks. Like many other sports, there’s the possibility that you may suffer an injury or injure somebody else. Of course, with swimming sports in particular, there are the additional risks posed by being in and around water.

Specialist swimming insurance can provide reassurance that you'd be protected in the event of an accident. Swimming insurance through Insure4Sport also includes the option of Worldwide cover if you swim or teach abroad.

Types of swimming insurance

Types of swimming insurance

There are four different types of swimming insurance policies available through Insure4Sport:

Swimmer insurance: Swimmer insurance is best suited to individual swimmers and can include Public Liability and Personal Accident cover.

Swim instructor insurance:  This may be the most suitable option for you if you teach swimming classes. However, you are required to have the relevant qualification for the level you are coaching from the appropriate governing body. Swimming instructor insurance through Insure4Sport includes the same cover offered in a standard swimmer insurance policy, but with the addition of Employers’ Liability and Professional Indemnity cover.

Swim team insurance: If you are part of a swim team, swim team insurance provides every team member the same cover as an individual swimmer insurance policy.

Swimming Insurance FAQs
  • Swim schools are legally required to have Employers' Liability insurance as a minimum if they employ swim teachers and instructors to teach their students.

If you own a swim school, you can protect it with sports club insurance. Find out more about sports club insurance, including Buildings and Contents insurance, on our dedicated page.

  • It's not a legal requirement for swim teachers to have insurance unless you run a teaching business and employ staff. In this case, you would be legally required to have Employers' Liability insurance as a minimum.

However, even if you don't employ staff, you may still want to consider getting insurance as a swim instructor to help protect you and your equipment in the event of an accident or theft.
